======================== All the memory available on the system is divided into 4 main areas, 2K per page, as explained below. If the system currently has less than the required amount of memory in the physical memory area it will be allocated from the virtual memory area, otherwise the system will give up an amount of physical memory that's the difference. To make memory reclaiming more efficient the virtual memory area is divided into 2 buffers, with an area of 4KB that's reserved for software use and an area of 4KB that's reserved for the OS and so the kernel can free these areas as quickly as possible. The rest of the virtual memory space is allocated by the kernel when it creates new processes.
